About Me
I feel like I found my calling when I started writing grants.

I love exploring the research and best practices for each new project. I love learning about my client organizations -- their passions, the people who make organizations work, their dreams, and their frustrations. I love the innovative initiatives that grant teams develop.

But most of all, I love knowing that my work makes it possible for you to continue your work. And that your work changes people's lives.

My mission?  Helping you accomplish yours.

My history? Not your typical grant writer.

You get the benefit of hiring a senior manager, social worker, planner, facilitator, and QI/Outcomes specialist. That's because this is my third career.

Before I threw out my suits and pantyhose   I spent over twenty years as a hospital administrator. I implemented system-wide quality improvement and outcome management plans. I chaired the system-wide information systems task force. I managed ambulatory services, including the emergency departments and private physicians' practices.

My earliest career? I started out as a medical social worker. That gave me a rich experience working with a wide range of people in crisis.

All that experience comes into play when I work with your staff. Does the program actually address the need? Is the budget reasonable? Do you have the capacity to be sucessful implementing the program?

They design the program. I ask the questions that will be on the funder's mind..
Customer testimonials

"I tend to go to Ruth. She has an excellent reputation. Nine out of ten grants she gets. She takes a lot off my plate."
Colleen Mountford,
CEO, BBBS of Ulster Cty.

Susan West, president of Family Services in Poughkeepsie, said Wahtera's skills are
"phenomenal."

"She really brings the work alive. It's not a dry document. She tells the facts in a way that you understand the story behind it," West said. Family Services uses several grant writers but Wahtera "has the best track record of all of them," West said.
